Any smart trader will know that the seller has goods that will spoil soon, and will offer the absolute minimum to obtain them. The closer the goods get to spoiling, the more wiling the trader will be to sell them for beans, for fear of losing them all together.

Or... if I don't get an offer I like I butcher the bear myself and get useful resources.
