Basically, you need much clay because you want to rebuild your ovens/metal buildings/treepots as soon as you get better wood (which means better bricks/pottery).

Hmm, point to this.

And If what I read about bloom->wrought being 30% conversion you'd need 1440 pieces of ore to do it assuming completely average yields for it.

That's severely improved by industry. Not sure about the actual % but I'm pretty sure that it's more than 30%, or I'm godlike lucky.

Ah right, full industry turns the 30% to 50% doesn't it?

As for a full vein... lol not necessarily. I saw a tin vein that had to have at least 3000 bars worth of tin ore in it. Unless iron veins are smaller than tin ones at least.

720 ore = 28.8 smelters @ 20% chance of a bar = 5 bars per smelter (on average) = 144 bars @ approx 1/3 conversion to wrought = 48 wrought. roughly. plus there would be some spare cast, so you might only need 500 or 600 ore. that's only a few hours mining actually.

I -did- that steel LC novaalpha is selling, and I -did- emptied that vein. It was a rather medium vein compared to others I've emptied. Anyway, not like the entire vein went into 1 steel LC hurr.
