Assuming you have the sqrt(str*tool) score high enough to reach max speed. A higher Q pick often does let you mine faster if you're mining hard rock that is nearing your mining score.

If the minimum sqrt(STR*ToolQ) for the wall is 54 (real example of 2nd floor walls) and you have exactly 54 with a Pickaxe you will do 1 mining try per stamina bar. So yeah, Q involves a lot. And as always it's better to raise the lowest number (ToolQ) than the highest (STR)
