How, exactly, do I edit these res files?

Postby Servant_Girl » Wed Jul 03, 2013 3:18 am

I've tried the programs included on the forums but I am unsure as to how Resource Layer Utility even works, and the havenResUtil_v5.jar keeps giving me a null pointer.

I've managed to locate the files and even the exact parts I wish to change and I HAVE changed them but it remains the same in game. I'm not sure how thats even possible but I need help.

I'm having trouble. What program should I be using resedit or Eclipse?

edit: I got the haven res tool thing, followed the instructions and got a null pointer exception. I don't understand what I'm doing incorrectly.

edit:I now have the full resource layer utility tool but I'm having a lot of trouble getting anywhere.

Gah! I was thinking 'Oh I mod Minecraft so this will be easy' but holy crap its different XP

Texts are inside .res files so if you want to get them, you should use res tool.
But you can use hook resource loading inside the client java code if you are good with java and don't want to deal with restools.

I can't figure out how to get anywere. The res tool on the form gives a null pointer and the restool I Googled to get gives me some sort of head error.

Edit atm I have a bunch of LISP files all very small only a few lines in each

No, they are in gfx/hud/skills/.

For example, gfx/hud/skills/fireandice.res. Extract from the haven-res.jar and decode with LayerUtil.jar. Then look in the outputted fireandice.res/pagina/pagina_0.data file.

I've located and edited these files but in game it remains unchanged. Yet when I go back and look my changes are still there. I don't understand.

I used Notepad++ as all the 'tools' to use on the forums give me errors. The res thing still does a null pointer and I am unsure how to even work the other one.

I'm not exactly sure how. The one program gives me a null pointer error every time I try to encode or decode.

Simple instructions, if you just want to change the image, this should work fine. If you want fancy tool-tips and such, it's more complicated.

Download the haven res tool, the second link here.
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5853#p66606

Download the haven-res.jar, the first link here.
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=30126

Put them both in one folder. If you have 7-Zip, right click haven-res.jar, go into the 7-zip menu, click "extract here". If you don't have 7-Zip, get it.

Tip: If you want to keep all the client mods you already have, after the 7-zip extraction is done, copy paste the res folder from your ender's client, into the folder with the haven res tool and haven-res.jar. Replace all the files

Double click the haven res tool, the window should be "extract", click ok. A bunch of junk will pop up, wait until it says finished. It might take a while.

Then go into the out folder, and track down the image you want. It can take some time to know what the folders contain, and make the changes. Only mess with the .png files, don't touch the image layer or metadata.

When you're done, go back to the main folder, double click haven res tool, go into the drop down menu, and select encode. Copy paste the specific file path of the image changes.

The basic idea, is that you have encoded files, called .res. You use theTrav's tool to extract the metadata, imagelayer, and .png files. You edit the .png file, encode it back to .res, and put the files in your ender client's res folder.
