The other day one of Salem's clients broke 1.6 compatibility and four people complained, so I guess there could be a marginal amount of players here as well who's still stuck with older versions for whatever reasons. Although as ArvinJA already said, not sure if that segment is worth catering for. Especially at the expense of possible advantages. Lambdas among other nifty stuff would be definitely nice to have.

While we are at it... do you by any chance have any plans on giving some love (functionality wise) to the vanilla client?

Of course they'll dump time and effort into vanilla client with Hafen around the corner

In light of this new discovery. A slight modification was made to account for the odd calculations movement hits have. v1.5 will be up in a few minutes for download.
