Is it still impossible to find out what your starting coordinates are? Or one still has to look for some clues on his map and try to find them on the world map?

Your second assumption is right ...

1. server uses it's own Coords system
2. custom client uses it's own Coords system
3. World map uses it's own Coords system

so you'd need a code that translates the system Coords to custom client and that to World map Coords but i guess nobody did because:

AFAIK also the server Coords are random for char / session (needs to be verified)

Impossible to know the servers "actual" coordinates yes, but you can map the world like alg's map, and then find coordinates on your own map. The coords then would depend on where you started stitching tiles together.

The point is you'd still have to manually find your Coords on Worldmap by diffing it with your local map - when you found your Coords you can change the values of your local map - manually or batch renaming the png files (or trying to get the tilevalue changer tool doing it properly  :x )

Best would be to do a local map in one session (without merging different sessions) - go to a mudflats center, log out and login where you logged out, start mapping a bit bigger area and stay overground - your starting tile is 0,0 (tile_0_0.png) ...

Update: romovs Anemone client now has a feature to find and show your Coords ( button with link to Worldmap also)

I can't run the map uploader.
Well, this statement is incorrect.

I can run the uploader, but I can't upload my tiles. "Could not connect to server try again later."
I tried again later.
Nine times.
Still no response.

It's annoying me, as I've manually put my tiles together to see if I can find my local area on your World Map, but I've not been able to find it.
Meaning that, there may be several players with new areas whose maps you do not have.

Does anyone know how I could go about uploading my tiles?

Only Algeralith is maintaining the Worldmap so we have to wait untill he looks into the forum / this thread.

To me it's the same for some weeks - you might try with Anemone client (see update sentence in my post above)

How large is the world? I see the mapping of world 7 in the link but how much bigger is it than that?

7x7 supergrids, 5000 tiles squared each, totaling 35000 tiles squared.

The world map in the thread is an accurate depiction of the world's size.
Of another era.

If one were to run in one direction what would happen when they got to the edge of the world? Could you tell you were at the end?
