I use the term hermit loosely. What I mean by that is a non combat character. Sure there should be a risk to leaving the walls, but the risk should not be so astronomically huge. Non combat character AKA Someone who has no chance of fighting, I consider myself a combat character, that said I lose about 50/50 of the people I chase, it's not as easy as you think to chase someone down, unless they really are completely fresh to the game.
With more people the odds are stacked against you, but in a 1v1 I agro you, you have time to decide if you should run or fight, if you choose to run, learn to run well there are many things that you can do to help your survival - IE not running in a straight line, using call down the thunder to queue a move while they are chasing you to negate the 0 defence, using trees or swamps to your advantage. People aren't as helpless as they seem, they just fail to realise simple things like this and think outside the box.
All I'm saying is that if you stay cool and calm when you are attacked and use your head you can usually escape, unless they have the numbers or really catch you by surprised - which then SHOULD make them win.
