Sometimes when I get into the game it lags like a mofo, and sometimes it doesn't.

I get this, Does the same thing on all clients I use, So i'm not so sure. Maybe something to do with Java, That's only what I can assume anyway, I just keep loading up my client until it stops.

I also sometimes get horrible client-side lag when I start the client, it's like a 1/20 chance though, and I simply restart it and it goes away.

May I suggest displaying more information on curios, specifically the LP/hour? Would be really helpful not having to calculate it myself and see which curios are best to put in.

BAT files are specific to windows (or (MS-)DOS if your a little older). So you can't use them in any usable way, shape of form on a mac.

See:
- Can i use a custom client on a mac?
- Mac / Ender's client
- ... ? (I'm sure there are some other mac related topics. just remember that "mac" as word is not usable as search parameter.)

client-side lag: Is this limited to single client use?, or limited to multiple clients use?

In the latter case (if the lag source is video memory related) experimenting with restoring (800x600) and maximizing the client window's might work to (in some cases).
- Assuming some video memory defraging effect here.
- Client screen on this side will show some graphic junk data (shortly) when some memory reallocation was applied. (might not show on on other systems.)
- However, this also has a chance of crashing the client. Chance depending on the system. (only got one video-crash like that so far, but that's not saying that much as its a local-video/system thing.)
