"System could not find the specified path"

I've tried all variants (32, 64, 34 in 64) to be sure. I'll take a better look at this later.

My computer is weird.

Check whether your Windows is 32 Bit or 64 Bit version.

Check where your Java is located

On 32 Bit Windows it's C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe

For 64 Bit Windows look at my Signature

If your character is brand new, you might not know how to craft anything. If you've picked a branch and chipped a rock though, you will have the option to craft a stone axe.

.jar is openable in winzip, winrar... It's no problem, because you're not supposed to run it by doubleclicking it anyway.

probably winzip is set as default program for opening jar extension - change it in winzip settings

The first time I opened the game, right after running the updater, it worked nicely.

But then I started to get a "connection refused" every time. The thread OP linked for that issue linked to the following for Linux: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=21906

It didn't work. However, if I start the updater every time instead of the client, it works nicely, so it really isn't an issue for me, but I figured i'd report it. Here's the updater log:

Code: Select all
OS: 'Linux', arch: 'amd64'
Checking for updates...
No updates for 'jogl-natives-linux-amd64.jar'
No updates for 'gluegen-rt-natives-linux-amd64.jar'
No updates for 'jogl.jar'
No updates for 'gluegen-rt.jar'
No updates for 'haven-res.jar'
Updates found for 'craft.conf'
Updates found for 'curio.conf'
Updates found for 'fep.conf'
Updates found for 'highlight.conf'
Updates found for 'smileys.conf'
No updates for 'changelog.txt'
No updates for 'haven.jar'
No updates for 'client-res.jar'
Downloading 'craft.conf'
Downloading 'curio.conf'
Downloading 'fep.conf'
Downloading 'highlight.conf'
Downloading 'smileys.conf'
Starting client...

I'm on Debian 7.4 (Wheezy). `java -version' output:

Code: Select all
java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.6) (6b27-1.12.6-1~deb7u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

Oh, and the client randomly flashes a sort of messed up screen if what seem like stretched polygons. It's for less than a second and only occasionally so I can't really take a screenshot or describe it well...

Funny thing. If I run the updater, close it, and then run it again, it finds no new updates.

However, if I run the updater, run the client (and get conn refused), then run the updater again, it finds the updates. It seems like the client is deleting the files lol

Normally the client only overwrites when updating files and doesn't delete any files.
Do you have an Ender folder containing updater.jar and run it from there?
I'd suggest to make a new folder drop the updater.jar into and run it. Check whether you can connect and play with that "clean" Ender.

You might upgrade to OpenJDK7 and IcedTea7 on your Wheezy. Afaik all custom clients are compiled with Java7...
