Find a large landmark such as an oddly shaped terrain form or a big village of some kind and locate it on the map. Usually finding a village near you is a big help if you can ask anyone around or if you can find a part of the claim outside their walls to figure out the name and ask on the forum if anyone knows where it is located.

Playing around with terrain highlight.

Preview part. (scale 1:1)
Image => links to full map of course (1562 x 1562, 2Mb)
Source: algeralith HavenMap, zoomlevel 5, 27 mrt 2011.

(Might help finding your location in the current world ... a little faster. It did for me.)
--- --- ---
Just in case.
- Blue: Water of course, mainly lakes. (rivers to foggy at this zoom level)
- Green: Grass. (will of course change after some time.)
- Yellow: Moor.

Not sure what process you use, but I scan on LCh channels instead of RGB. I found that way more easier. (although I have not really tried/done the hard parts yet.)

(... would love to have access to original SG image dumps that also contain the original alpha channel.)

Can you post a little map part example? I'm kinda curious about how it looks.

How long does the map take to update?

I upload some files a couple days ago and the map still hasn't updated. Is the server not processing the uploads or updating the map?
