Kin color-coded merchrobes

Postby razfen » Sat Sep 27, 2014 2:38 pm

Now I'm pretty sure that the title says it all.

There's already mechanics in modded clients which can color their gob path based on their kin color, and there's already merch robe mods of almost any color available for the taking. Modding this into the client wouldn't be too hard, considering that xcom's client for instance is capable of switching res files based on certain in-game triggers (boars change into wolves on full moon).

This would add a nice little feature to be able to diminish between kin colors more easily, and make use of all those merch robe recolors together in a single mod.

But how the actual sprite resources are called might not allow something like this. From what I understand all the multi-colored merchant robes, have all be pre-colored and that acts as the modded resource for the game client. The game client I don't think has any way to change such resources on the fly according to something as relatively temporal as a kin list color setting.

standard answer would be: why don't you do it then ?!? :P

- for kin colored gob path you need to read out the kin color and draw a line in that color (no res files involved)
- the special feature reads out the Calendar and at a certain time swaps one fixed res folder for another one
(simplified)

what would you need to make your idea work?
- read out kin color
- having 7 merch res folders named different besides the standard merch (or 8 if we have the standard one colored white ;) )
- read out what the kin wears and if he's wearing a merch
- if so swapping the standard merch res files with the kin colored ones

oh hey ... and to code it into the appropriate .java files :P

Not too hard ?!?

No it's not too hard to be an ideas billionaire

I would have done it if I knew how to code.
This is just a suggestion, not a request.
No, I'm too lazy to look 3 hr long "how to java" videos on youtube.
