Raided, want advice.

Postby DeMatt » Mon Apr 02, 2012 12:12 am

I'm a hermit, have been for all my gameplay. When I logged out last night, my hermitage was nice and tidy, palisade closed, etc.

Log in this morning, and it's a disaster area. Couple dozen cupboards destroyed, another dozen or so assorted other containers gone, basically everything in said containers stolen and/or destroyed, all of my feed troughs destroyed, animal pens opened and/or smashed, probably a quarter of my animals slaughtered.

Since there's no damage to the palisade, all I can assume is that, sometime during the past when I forgot to close it, somebody snuck into my palisade and made use of my keymolds, and then today came back with a raid.

So I'm asking for advice. Said keymolds are gone, along with the cupboard they used to be in. This means I cannot assume my palisade is secure. There's a ridge I built up against, so I can't build a new wall around my existing palisade. Not that I can afford to build a brick wall - I haven't even tried for steel. Leaving would be painful - I recently started a mining alt, because my main was going all farming, and it's just painful switching between a newbie and an advanced character.

What do I do?

I don't see how one wall against a ridge prevents you from building another. At most you might have to build two initial cornerposts. Also, it might have been they walljumped you (it's sometimes possible with a wall that rests on ridge). Also for the future, never keep/use moulds. You should have ONE key only and at all times it should be on a key alt, that alt never leaving the village.
edit: Saph makes a valid point, you can always ram your old gate.

lolman is an idiot and a noob. Currently a palisade only provides a slight bit more protection over a fence, the only way to make sure you're secure is a brick wall. Though If you want to, ram your gate and rebuild it, that way all old keys are useless. Also, if you have a cave it's highly likely that the intruders got in that way.

You could block your gate off and then set up a ram to rebuild the gate, but since you're using a palisade, you're not really safe either way. You really need to get your hands on bricks and metal for a brick wall, so there's not much you can do to keep yourself safe until you build one.

Also, lolman's an idiot and a faggot.

It's possible to bash a palisade, then repair it after you've left.

Work on getting a brick wall up as fast as you can, however you can.

Thank you all for the advice.

What I meant was, I currently have a completely-encircling palisade, one of whose sides lies against a ridge. Building another complete encirclement would require either enclosing the ridge (quite a bit more construction) or ramming down the palisade to make room. Don't have a village, I was kinda trying to keep small and overlooked. A village would show that big RED ANTLERS HERE icon on the map. As to the moulds... I'm playing for fun, and futzing around with a key-alt doesn't seem like it. So providing my mining alt with a keyring didn't seem like a problem, and neither did keeping the moulds inside my palisade.

My minehole's outside my palisade, but inside a dip of the ridge.

A closer look at my palisade does show a vandalism scent on the outside surface in one spot. Effing hell. Well that makes me feel better, realizing that it wasn't my carelessness which let 'em in. Guess I should start on a brick wall, then... damn the steel requirement.
