There are two points that need to be made here.
1. Account stealing is not a bug. It is a symptom of the same problem however, people going outside of the normal rules of the game in order to win. In both cases people are doing everything they can to get an advantage, all else be damned. Bug abuse : account stealing :: sneezing : throwing up. I doubt one leads to the other in all cases, but both are signs of internal sickness to one degree.
2. Yes, you have seen bugs used. You've used them yourself. Whether it's using the leather cart bug, the unlimited fire in a house bug, destroying your hearth fire to teleport somewhere for free, or just using a client that allows you to turn off darkness so you can see in caves without using lights. Everyone uses bugs to some degree in order to make life easier. You can't be blamed for it. It's never punished. It does nothing but help you. Everyone else is doing it, and not doing it put you at a disadvantage. And that my friend is the point.
You see, by not using bugs, you can't do as well as someone who does use bugs all else equal. Sure some people use more, some people use less. Sometimes that is because one person knows more bugs than another, sometimes that is because one person is willing to do more to get the advantage than the other. There is too much "You jump over walls!" "Oh yeah, well one time you ate at a magic table!" in this thread. This isn't the point. It's not about accusing one another. EVERYONE USES BUGS TO METAGAME. The problem is that we have reached the point where people metagame more than they game, and steal accounts or pay off people to betray their alliance. This is not good for the community, this is not good for the game, and this is not good for the developers. People who hack and cheat WILL do better than people who don't, all else equal. If Portagas hadn't screwed up by tipping his hand early, he could have destroyed the entire Russian playerbase in one night had he waited. Hell, if the client spread to the English forum, he could have taken complete control.
This is not what the game should be known for. This is not what people should have to do in order to compete. If someone is trying to hack you, and the devs won't do anything, the only things you can do are quit, pray, or try to hack them first. Replace the word "hack" with "Abuse tables, abuse wall jumping, building chaterstones, etc" and you will have exactly what is wrong with the game.
Jorb and Loftar MUST return to punishing people for abuse or it will get worse. If they can not or will not do this, then they must shut down the game until they can, let it become so broken even you new people will recognize it.

You make me sad. :<
I am doubly sad if you think the only people who matter are the ones who talk a lot, you're smarter than that.
