I kept this behaviour as kind of an old habit till I stopped playing in w5. Everyone I met I talked to first and since it turned out to be friendly people in 90% of the cases in w3 I never really changed that attitude. In todays world I would be completely lost with it.
The thing is some people prefer an arnachic, non-social system probably because they don't get at all that there is more to the game, higher purposes than manslaughter. These people are clearly lacking in organization and a preferable, no consequential route of the game should be for the world to develop from an arnachic hellhole to at least regional controlled areas with blossoming societies. Then it is much more meaningful to have real wars too btw. With the current state of the game such a development is impossible though and the hearthlands are doomed to remain in a social stoneage. Why? Because:
