why not just wipe the accts then? i mean if we're going under the assumption that they are going to circumvent a ban and create a new acct, why not just reset the acct?

Phishing for passwords with an engineered client is really really easy. Just saying.

You would have to add features to said client that would make people want to DL it in the first place, and once it has/had been outed as a passlogger, no one would get it again. Eventually (In a very short time span) everyone would just stick with Ender's or the other known to be legit clients. All in all, a bunch of work just to gain access to characters that may be subpar of what you can create yourself. Just because I sum things up in one sentence doesn't mean I don't know what i'm talking about. kthxbye.

unless said legit client ends up with a keylogger update
also it is not so hard to have your main account banned either
i wouldn't be surprised if portgas is not the boss of this operation

Everything the thief have stolen and cant be toke back, should simply be destroyed. Nor thief or user will have to use it and this story will have no winners or looser.

Is just a Fix of the bad idea of some player that used the game to damage real people.

Real people will make a new account and go on, strong of a new experience.
The thief will loose all his accounts, legit or stoled, and will go on, strong of a new experience.

This is just a way to close the problem. No justice, sentence or punishment. Just reset and delete the problem, the accounts, the gain of both sides and nothing more.

People will find a new way to steal in future, what is important is just that no one gain nothing at the end of the story. Who steal will lose the gain, who is robbed will learn to avoid thiefs.

I think is the easyest way to solve this. Not "evil or right".
Just no one win.

Afterall also who use lots time to build illegal vault, will not have punishment for his work, but at the end of the story the vault is deleted. (When time let do it)
basically is the same here.

While I appreciate that jorb actually took the time to respond to this thread, am I wrong in reading his response as basically "Shit happens."?

Because that sets a truly terrible precedent and does nothing to deter the next random fuckhat from doing the exact same thing or something much, much worse.

I think I'd rather have an overaggressive dev/moderator overlord in a game like HnH than a new-age hippie pussy in charge. No offense bmjclark.

I'm not sure about all countries, but the US has developed a whole section of criminal code on what is legal and illegal with a computer. Using subterfuge to gain personal information (including passwords) definitely falls under illegal. In case these guys are outside the US, most of the industrialized world have pretty much the same thing. Granted, it falls somewhere between breaking and entering (breaking into a place and not stealing anything) and actual larceny in severity of punishment, a crime it still is.

Technically, if Jorb or Loftar either one were to submit the hacked client to the offender's national police force, there could potentially be an investigation. Will it happen? Probably not unless the person responsible were already under suspicion for other criminal acts. After all, they finally convicted Al Capone for tax evasion, not any of the dozens of other crimes he committed in his life.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
