then stop saying "we" when you talk about your individual opinion only.
or were you representing Melsonia instead of Dis when you said "we"?

@Gunnar, it is koya and his comrades traditionally that prefer Sun Tzu to Machiavelli ;)

When I say "we" I'm speaking for the vast majority of the people I associate myself with. I'm simply saying that Kaizo should not be lumped in with what I say to the "T" as all of our views vary slightly. If you'd like to make an opinion of him, do it based on his posts and not anyone else's.

It's Dis tread again
Maybe just make one "Dis are bloodthirsty monsters" topic instead of flaming about Dis at least twice a week?
And no new arguments also. Aren't you bored?

next lesson kids

And you have to understand this, that a prince, especially a new one, cannot observe all those things for which men are esteemed, being often forced, in order to maintain the state, to act contrary to faith, friendship, humanity, and religion. Therefore it is necessary for him to have a mind ready to turn itself accordingly as the winds and variations of fortune force it, yet, as I have said above, not to diverge from the good if he can avoid doing so, but, if compelled, then to know how to set about it.

For this reason a prince ought to take care that he never lets anything slip from his lips that is not replete with the above-named five qualities, that he may appear to him who sees and hears him altogether merciful, faithful, humane, upright, and religious. There is nothing more necessary to appear to have than this last quality, inasmuch as men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, because it belongs to everybody to see you, to few to come in touch with you. Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them; and in the actions of all men, and especially of princes, which it is not prudent to challenge, one judges by the result.

For that reason, let a prince have the credit of conquering and holding his state, the means will always be considered honest, and he will be praised by everybody because the vulgar are always taken by what a thing seems to be and by what comes of it; and in the world there are only the vulgar, for the few find a place there only when the many have no ground to rest on.

One prince of the present time, whom it is not well to name, never preaches anything else but peace and good faith, and to both he is most hostile, and either, if he had kept it, would have deprived him of reputation and kingdom many a time.

edit1: actually read the thread...

WOW, how do I turn this on? Is there permadeath??? Am I allowed to use bots here? (PLEASE don't answer that one, i really don't want another 10 pages of that, i'm bored enough already :D)

edit2: machiavelli seems more fun than sun tzu since he comments on things more generally imo; he also has a book called "the art of war" by the way ;)

edit3: some of you guys seem really upset by tonky... oh and i'm 100% sure she doesn't want to join Dis :D, thats a cute one.

if kaizoku wasnt up to take it and didnt share opinions with you, he shouldnt have responded to my reply to yours, quite simple, isnt it?

@Gunnar, Sun Tzu can be quite interesting too. but the main point of his version of art is economically and effectively winning wars without loss, or maybe "not to lose" to be precise, by encouraging intelligence assessment. (can be applied to business in many ways, thus popular among company executives.)

had forgotten,
@lieto, long time no see. didnt think you knew that game :P

Damn capitalists. They just pretend to like Sun Tzu, in fact they apply Machiavelli

i somewhat agree with the fact that people criticize dis too much, but when tonky puts one post poking fun at people a little for having somewhat inconsistent in game personae and then some semi-personal attacks come back, you gotta wonder about those replying as well...

honestly though i think the trade/police thing is kindof semi-natural transition of an empire from wartime to peacetime, that we have seen many times throughout history (with all the complications of motives &c that that implies :)). correct me if i'm wrong kids...

edit: although some troublemaking villages still need to be conquered, apparently.

Nope. You're quite correct. It's natural for any conquering power to naturally transition in ways like this. Just look at the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Chinese conquerors worked in much the same way. Of course, there are other groups, like the Mongols, that never transitioned from raiders. (There's reasons for that, but I don't want to write a whole treaties on it.)

edit: and don't forget Nietzche :P
