I'm pretty sure Pain was neutral towards Dis until Raivain(however you spell it) went and killed him.

As for him destroying everything, no that wasn't useless. He took all the good stuff he had and destroyed the rest. If he had left it all there for when Dis barged in, then Dis would end up getting something out of the raid. Now they will get absolutely nothing, and wasted ram and strongbox mats, as well as time.

Adding more info to this because why not.
Pain was never allied with Ainran, he was friends with some of their members and they asked us to leave him be for a bit. He was never under Ainran's protection and the moral contract is non-existent now. He was never neutral to Dis or Ainran for that matter, just some people in Ainran were sort of friends with him.

Also, I checked the scents of Pain's characters today and they are all dead. So saying that we got "nothing" from placing the ram is hilarious since you raided yourself.
