Before, crossroad were unbelievably cheap and moreso that they can be built immediately unlike brickwalls which requires cornerposts to dry. Now with the recent update, it's mostly the quick deployment that is their advantage. Statues and Banners on the other hand...

It was still easier to build a brickwall in my opinion.

We sat 14 hours straight with a team of constantly half a dozen or more guys to secure a clay spot with crossroads and we still weren't done. In that time we could have probably brickwalled around Pande again.

If the system of disallowing walls to be near coast wasn't in place during the time, it would have been more suitable to have a crossroad at the region where you want to dig so a chief alt can dig at the location and then erect the protection back up again.

That was how we did it, but you need to pave the whole node with crossroads first.
