You can not protect your items from your palisade being bashed, there are to many palibashers at this time of the world.
Even having a brickwall, and patrolling it each 12 hours, is not safe because there are bugs to bash and jump it, they have been posted many times, so with a little search you can find out about this bug abuse.
Is not that I am saying you dont need them, you do, they make the casual griefer go away searching for a more easy target. Is just that there is no safety here, only some degrees of protection.
If you get strong alliances, that is good. Many thiefs do not dare attack some villages because of the fear of retaliation, but at this time of the world and with this awfull lag a lot of strong villages are abandoned, and if you are new to the game is probable you dont know strong players who actually play.
If you get to live in a village, well that is a risk too, villages allways have enemies and will be attacked. Maybe less than if you live alone? IDK, I think I have been griefed more severely living in a village than by myself. When I lived alone the griefing was casual, not with the anger of an enemy that demolishes houses and kills cattle beside stealing and destroying all they find.
One thing you can do is create an alternate account and save your valuables in alts toons inventory. I equip them with backpacks and travellers sacks. I can not still place on them merchant robes that would enlarge their inventory to an acceptable size, but they do ok for now. Ofc this does not work for liftable objects.
What I have found out, in the many times I have been griefed, is that people that attacked me did not bother to destroy construction signs, so whatever I placed into them allways was there after a raid, so now I use them a lot. IDK if this was just a bit of good luck in all the bad of the griefing or just a coincidence.
If you are going to make a brick wall, it would be much more safe to build your new base in an island, choosing one where you can see the shore from your brickwall. Ram bugs are not used in islands because there is not enough space to hide anything, adding patrolling to discover and destroy possible rams would make it very hard to be rammed.
The ideal base would be one with an antisnipers bwall at least 30 tiles from your main working area. This working area would be sorrounded by a smaller inner second bwall (both walls closed by themselves, not using clifs), this would give you some security.
What some players do is to place objects or construction signs in the 3 tiles next to the wall to prevent wall jumping (IDK if it really works).
This added to personal and village claims way over the outerwall to be able to collect scents when someone intends to bug ram you and to prevent someone placing a crossroad right next to your wall (to jump inside) might give you some security.
The ultimate security device used is a chieftain statue wall in the outer side of your brickwall, but chieftain statues are very expensive, so only rich players can make them. There is a post where it is said that banners work the same as statues, I have not seen banner walls, maybe because they require upkeep and statues dont? IDK.
Good luck Granny!, I wish you enjoy the game

, it is a beautiful game only waiting for some keep up that hopefully we will get after Salem gets to be open beta.
