CAVEAT EMPTOR: Regarding Real Money Transactions

Postby jorb » Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:55 pm

It has been brought to my attention that some people are buying ingame things with real world currency. Please be aware that you cannot legally buy or sell things that you do not own. Since we own all game data, you cannot buy and sell such things with the expectation that the transaction will be considered legal and valid by us, or by any worldly authority. Only trades and transactions that are entirely within the scope of the game will be tolerated in this forum.

The fact that we may not act to actively police such behavior should not be misconstrued as acceptance of such transactions, and talking about it here will (or at least should) get your thread sent straight to Hel, and net you a suitable forum ban.

Should you nevertheless persist you have no one but your own sorry ass to blame. You have been cautioned.

Good luck enforcing this.

Also,

Econ 101 fail. This has nothing to do with real world laws or economics. You, of all people, I would have figured would have a clue about this. It's your game and you can make up whatever rules you wish, but please don't try and act like this has anything to do with the legality of "selling game data". It's pretty pathetic actually.

I can enforce what goes on openly on the forums without any problems what so ever. I am not trying to enforce it in any other sense.

As is your mother. The point is one of legality, not philosophy. I understand perfectly well that ingame crap can and will be accorded prices in terms of real world money regardless of what rules I may make about it. The point that the transaction will not enjoy the protection of law is, however, very real.
