I was recruited into two different villages. Some things I liked from them was.

The first one offered me a group that was willing to work together, share items that others could borrow, teaching how to hunt, and jobs. The other did none of that. The second town was bad, I quit after only a few days because it was shitty. In order to get anything, say food, we had to make somethings are selves, and then give it to them. It was really bad.

Also if you can, it is always great if you can flat out avoid doing recruitment on the forums. I was always a fan of watching noobs start up around my villages and if things go well for them start trade relations, and if those go well then invite them to join your ranks. I'd also mention trying to stick to friends you know and trust and have been talking with for a while but not all of us have weaved those kind of connections yet.
