YingYang wrote:The Empire Of The Horizon
Hello and greetings from YingYang leader of the once glorious and thriving village of New Horizons now
but just a shell of its former glory. We were a new village that formed in world 5 and by the end had 6
or so villagers. We started a new in world 6 and at our peak were 10-15 villagers strong. we were a
scent free peaceful village holding are own against raiders & griefers. We were repeatedly warned by
our neighboring villages to move or die. Some of us did die in these wars with our neighbors but yet
our village would not be forced to move and move we did not.
Sounds a lot like my own experience. I am fairly new to HnH [started a few months ago] but came to it with a pretty large crew of around 20 ppl. We all knew each other from another indie mmorpg we played for years [fonline2238]. What we lacked in HnH experience we made up for in experience working together as a team. This allowed us to learn the ropes practically overnight. Of course it wasn't without its hickups. When we started out, not knowing any better, we set up camp right where we spawned and without a clue what we were doing set out to build our empire.
In no time we were raided and told to move. A few of us stayed behind refusing to move while the rest set out in boats in search of the new world. Actually it was only myself and my bro NorseViking who stayed behind. During our breaks from the back breaking labor required of a mere two man team we would sing tales by the campfire lamenting the thought of being forever alone. We were eventually picked clean by thieves and were mauled by wild animals around the same time. It was time to join the others.
So we made new chars, inherited our ancestral legacies and this time spawned into a large thriving claim established in a new land by our vibrant young tribe. It was a great location near every kind of resource you could ask for, almost too good to be true. Alas, it was. We soon learned we hadn't moved nearly far enough. We had no elders to advise us on the ways of the world so we still had not discovered just how incredibly vast this world was. What we thought was a great distance was
practically still in the same neighborhood [same river network]. This was when we discovered the online world map and began plotting courses from river network to river network.
Our new goal was to reach the map's edge thinking we could enter unexplored land beyond the known map. We eventually did reach the edge but to our grave disappointment discovered the world ended there! But there did seem to be far less activity there so we settled near the edge of the world. Eventually we built up a village and began trading with a few villages we found some distance from us.
Only about half of our original number made it this far. Along the seemingly endless journey one by one the feint of heart fell by the roadside too weary to go on or fled naked into the wilderness in a fit of dementia. Some just silently walked into the river never to return. Those of us with the wanderlust to press forward completed the journey and helped build our first village: Dogs of War.
Sadly this was around the time the lag started to really kick in. To make matters worse the journey had taught us to fear many things. Especially rivers. It claimed so many lives. The same wonder of nature that carried us to freedom might also carry misfortune in our wake. Our paranoia got the better of us and we built our village far away from any river. We drilled a few wells within the village walls so water wasnt a problem but we had to hike for miles carrying boats to do any real traveling/exploring.
Then an invisible omnipresent evil force visited our humble village. Villagers began experiencing uncontrollable fits of walking backwards, some were so afraid they became petrified - unable to move at all until the evil wind passed! Some seemed to be possessed as they seemed to almost hover above the ground, their legs going through the motions of walking but not taking them anywhere! A great sadness overtook the poor afflicted villagers. They began to sleep in more and more. Eventually, it became normal for villagers to hardly ever see one another as each would sleep for days. Days eventually turned into weeks, then months. Untill one day I awoke from a terrible dream only to find it wasnt a dream at all. I was the last of my tribe! The others never woke up again. I spoke to them in the dream world to obtain any information they held about our village that I might need to continue taking care of it. And that is what I have done to this day.
Some of the things I can offer
The best thing I can offer is help with
this game as iv been playing for some time now and the promise that unless I die in real life I will
continue to play.
I make the same promise. I've played straight through the worst of the lag even after I was the only
one left of my gang. I'm not goin anywhere. I have no interest in Salem. And no interest any of the
fancy 3d mmos.
Village rules
These are just the ones that you should know of before deciding to join. When we build the new village
a whole new set of rules will be made.
1-No killing/scent leaving with out proper authorization
2- I get a copy of your plot key when the day comes at the new village. (For safety measures)
These are the only 2 rules I think that could keep you from joining so if they don't bug you fill out
the app below
Sounds reasonable to me.
The Application 1- I'll install Skype if necessary
2- Our old gang used to use mumble or ventrillo. Nothing installed now, but i use hands-free
headset for voice chatting.
3- Got my start late in this one [w6 at time of this writing]
4- Currently the single remaining villager/law speaker/chieftain of Dogs of War
5- No criminal record [in game that is]

6- Age: Over 21
7- I play a little every day. I could play a lot most days so long as I am not swamped with rl duties.
8- Male
9- USA, Eastern US time zone or GMT-5 [EDIT: oops I did have GMT+5 here for a while, corrected now]
10- English, HTML/css/javascript, DOS Basic and some Visual Basic
10- Read/write/speak english fluently
11- #echo off
12- I'm into big game hunting, enjoy hiking and row-boating studying everything I find, and i like to work with my hands [crafting/carpentry] as well as the culinary arts. I also have an interest in the art of bonzai [tree growing]. Oh and landscaping is a favorite pasttime. It is like a zen meditation for me. Everything has its optimal place like feng shui.
13- I haven't had any experience with hearthling opponents other than being the murder victim but being a hunter I am not entirely unfamiliar with the martial arts and I am willing to learn. I am a firm believer in self-defense so I feel that everyone should learn at some point.
14- I have two gatekeepers, one for the village [aptly named Gatekeeper] and another [Red] for the claim set up by Ash [a descendant of one of my kin who was murdered] who I decided to spawn into the wilderness to start fresh rather than being born into a life of privelage in the village. I was planning to have him establish his own village so I could make a crossroads between the two villages.
In the village live Askr and Embla, they are actually children who took the names of their recently deceased parents. Life has always been fairly easy for these kids born into a life of privelage. Embla is not nearly as active as was her mother, she stays in the village most of the time. Askr II however does try to be like his father and does travel when he can, but he never had to earn his keep as his father did. Ash has some big shoes to fill but he is determined to do it. And like his father he was born alone in the savage wilderness. [Basically all my characters had to start over recently but I've been spending most of my time with Ash recently because a village is just too much for one man to maintain - so I enjoy the hermit life that Ash is living far away from the village].
15- I did not set out to find a village to join. Ash took his gatekeeper Red [shes a she] out on a date earlier today. They decided to go for a boat ride and had just stopped at the swamp to chase dragonflies together. As Ash chased one of the insects northward, Red chased another further into the swamp where she nearly ran right into a bear!
No, not a bear, as she realized it was walking on two feet and it wore a red hankerchief just under its eyes thereby hiding the one area that would otherwise give his human identity away. Suddenly Red felt just a tad too much like the little girl in the faery tale [minus the riding hood] and dropping her dragonfly net she made a mad dash for the boat. But Ash didn't see the stranger and just thought Red wanted to race him to the boat so he thought he would play a mean trick and beat her to it and push off so she couldnt get to him. Then he realized there was someone chasing her! Fortunately he wasn't really chasing her but was merely trying to catch up as he attempted to shout his greetings from afar.
Once the stranger caught up he proceeded to introduce himself as the Ruthless Communist Sees. After some small talk Ash proceeded to tell the sad story of what happened to his village. Mr. Sees took pity on the lost souls but left them with hope. He spoke fondly of a place called New Horizons Camp and directed his new friends to the billboard where New Horizons applications could be found and invited them to apply for citizenship.
16- Ingame names ? Ash, Askr II, and Embla. The others are mere servants who's jobs require they stay where they are.
Multiple choiceEach number has 3 words. Simply pick the word that best fits you the most.
17- I prefer peace but I am no anti-war activist. War is a necessary evil.
18- loyalty/Friendship/Duty To me these terms are different aspects of one virtue one might call brotherhood. Death before dishonor!
19- Army/Politics/Civilian Like #18 these all depend upon one another, I would not alienate myself from any of them. If I had to choose I guess I would like to start off a civilian, join the army in time of war to defend my civilian way of life and then perhaps after my honorable discharge, preserve the peace and prosperity we fought for via diplomatic relations and inter-village trade agreements [politics].
20- "Skys the limit" ain't a bad philosophy.
May the hearth gods be kind to us on our journey
Skole! Let it be so spun by the Norns who weave the threads of fate at the foot of the world tree; Yggdrasil!
Thence come the maidens
mighty in wisdom,
Three from the dwelling
down 'neath the tree;
Urth is one named,
Verthandi the next,--
On the wood they scored,--
and Skuld the third.
Laws they made there,
and life allotted
To the sons of men,
and set their fates.
