Brand New, Looking for Guidance

Hello! I stumbled upon this game after I heard of a game called Salem.
I have read most of the guides I could find, but am at a point where I think actual experience would work best. I was hoping to get to start playing a couple days ago, and stopped by the IRC, but the servers were down for a bit.

I'm not necessarily interested in joining a village per say, because I understand how that can be a security risk and how I'd be a burden, but If there is a irc or ventrillo (unfortunately I have no mic) where I could ask questions, that would be cool. Or like an alliance of hermits. I am a bit more interested in the politics of the game and who is who in world 6 than game mechanics, but I am very eager to learn how to play.

My time zone is PST, and I recently graduated so I will be playing late late late ^.^
