Problem is that this instance of the game is very old now and everyone has put a lot of time and effort into building up their villages and so mostly do not want to let unknowns into their towns that might be wolves in sheeps clothing.

If your friend is currently not playing then I suggest you learn the ropes solo - you will probably get killed a few times and have to restart but it is a good game when you get the hang of it and that's the best way to learn rather than joining an established village and already having everything.

Atm there are problems that will quickly become apparent to you, basically lag because the devs are too busy elsewhere to iron out some bugs and as a consequence a shortage of active players, when they come back the world will probably be reset anyway so if you do like it then just spending some time now working out the basics is probably the best idea..

problem with new players now is getting them into a level which can allow them to do specific jobs. takes too long when u're in a developed town.

start your own little settlement and invite other new players or egt support from bigger towns.
