i dont rly understand the point of this place... what makes ppl wanna join other than roleplay?
what gives me an advantage if i join, over a guy who didnt join?
why would i want to give anything to anyone if i can just not do it?
if all of this is mentioned in some huge wall of text forgive me for not wasting 34 hours reading some shit that can probably be summed up in 10 sentences

10 sentences? The answer is 'Social contract'.

...but rather than sift through Wikipedia, I can give you the ten sentences, sure.

Someone who doesn't join isn't entitled to the services the group provides, limiting their options for trade and mutual defense.

Okay, so this is only five sentences and I wasted half of them.

Trade and mutual defense. Okay, maybe the Wikipedia article would do better (or someone who's actually in the group), I'm not inclined to expound or speculate.

News from Taqimathi!
The Edelreich's interim congress issued an announcement today that describes the political leadership of Union's forthcoming government!

Mixed in this update are some displeasureable comments and exciting facts. Good news first, Hermits will be represented in the Union on similar par to the villages which exist in the Union. How this is possible requires a foregrounding comment from Taqimathi's Lawspeaker, jcm2214. He writes, "the Edelreich is divided into two councils, the Senate and the Assembly of Plebeians.... As well as two councils shall also exist a consul." According to the update, the Senate will pass laws and codes that have effect throughout the Edelreich. Senate members are elected from villages and from hermit settlements that exist throughout the Edelreich.

For every one village, the village may elect a Senator.
For every five hermits, the hermits may elect a Senator!
The political body of hermits in the Edelreich is called The Assembly of Plebians. This organization is composed of all hermits.

The fairness of rule seems to weigh greatly in the favor of Hermits, and it was not long ago that there was concern that hermits would have any representation in the Edelreich. Time will tell if this edict is amended to favor villages, of say, 30+ people, but at this time, it would appear the current congress greatly values the opinions of the Hermit population.

Now for the bad news. The new leadership update proposes the role of an executive to the Edelreich, called The Consul. The Consul comes with that standard power to veto laws that the Senate passes, laws which can then be 'un-vetoed' through a two-thirds vote against the veto. The Consul also comes with that weighty but necessary duty of handling external affairs. What is terrible, unfortunate, and rather threatening to the Edelreich Press! is the Consul and his or her cabinet's power to govern the press for the Edelreich! It is a terrible power and should be struck down!

The Edelreich Press obliges for freedom of the press! As a member of the press, we cannot be stifled, and we must hold the Edelreich accountable through the court of public opinion and facts! We would report from a cave and write by the glow of a cavebulb if we must! Transparency is required for an honest government, and so I move to heighten press freedoms—not fetters.

Stay alert for further updates!

Leadership Changes that jcm2214 wrote:Leadership
The membership of the Edelreich is divided into two councils, the Senate and the Assembly of Plebeians. The Senate shall consist of the representatives chosen by their individual villages, one per village, as well as one representative elected from the Assembly of Plebeians for every five of its members. The Senate will have the ability to pass all laws and codes as well as govern the everyday affairs of the Edelreich. The Assembly of Plebeians shall consist of all hermit members in the Edelreich. It will have the following abilities: pass laws that do not have affect on villages and elect members to the senate. As well as two councils shall also exist a consul. The consul shall be elected by popular vote of all citizens of the Edelreich. The consul shall have the power to veto laws unless they have been approved by a minimum of 2/3. The consul also, along with his cabinet, will be in charge of governing external affairs and press for the Edelreich.
