This way it would be alooooooot les griefing and such crap. Or maybe -10hhp? After all, vandaling is pure griefing and I don't even mind if theft is 0 hhp loss.

"Vandalling" a node to take some high q clay isn't really griefing though ;).

I know, I don't mind if I'd have such clay node and someone would lower 3q down and then it would go back, it is why the -5hhp or -10. If you vandal it to take clay for your kiln, you do it once, but there are few good nodes and preety much all vandaled down, and now that for example CR's have been fixed that you cannot build them on shore tiles anymore, well, you can have q100 clay node and it will be q10 all the time if enemy will want that. So there has to be some kind of solution for this, same for soil.

i think its fine the way it is, it counters people monopolising the game by holding onto such nodes , which give a huge boost to nearly everything you craft, and the fact you can sell the products of these nodes for exorbitant prices with very little work put into on the finders side of things (survival a claim and getting lucky), i think is unfair.

OP; how about instead of using the forum as your own personal army you do something about it yourself? You could keep digging up the clay and lower its quality to 10?

Nothing lucky there to grind survival first to 100 and find a node. It takes alot of effort and ofcourse bigger factions will have advantage over hermits. I'm sure if you would own q80 clay and was alone in the world with it, 2nd best would be q60, you wouldn't want your node to be at q10 for the whole time, right? Right.

The amount of people who have high survival are far less than the nodes out there. The "luck" is in the finding them before someone else does.

Grinding to 100 survival first and exploring preety much most of the world is the way to go. And those people who care about industry will always be in front doing it before anyone else got the chance, claim it and protect it with their lives ;) That is not luck. Luck is if you make your char 10 tiles in front of q80+ clay node. And even if you are so lucky, that doesn't mean you will discover it before best survivalist will.

Throwing a 12-sided dice once and hoping it hits "one" and then getting "one" is lucky, because the chance was lower than 10%.

For every person who explored for 80+ hours, how many do you think found a q60+ node that wasn't already taken? If the chance is as low as 10%, then you can consider finding "free" q60+ nodes to be "lucky".

Why not deploy the OP's strategy though, it's viable, it's potentially rapid and super effective. It's extreme and probably not popular, but it's legit, so why not?
