This game is not for the weak willed or the classic "rager". You will die, likely many times. And then, if you come back to play more, you will die again. This game has permanent death, so you will be restarting your character essentially from scratch with each death.

I haven't died unintentionally since world 4, all you have to do is not take risks. See that bear running away from you into the woods? DON'T GO AFTER IT. See a player? auto recall. Aggroed in a boat? DON'T LEAVE THE BOAT EVER.

You've got to play this game like you handle a meth or horse porn addiction.

Binge on it for a good solid two weeks (especially when a new world starts) and then stop and walk away for a few years until the shame and tears have ended. Rinse, repeat.
