I am quite sure they didn't leave any scents. It's just the easiest excuse for raiders to say that.

There were some thieft scents near village after (as Prowny said) taking stuff of friend who accidantly died by bear. That was one of most friendly villages i known so even if that sound like an easy excuse i sure belive him. Prowny if u r still playing PM me aswell, i would be happy to visit u with some presents hehe
