It is pretty simple: just realize what you are actually playing: you are playing a sandbox MMORPG with permadeath. Bait chose to play/roleplay an antihero/villain in this game, maybe also a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde persona. Do you also complain about someone else shooting you in a FPS?

It is not real life, it is a game, specifically one which allows deception as a gameplay tool. (EVE online is another good example of a such game)

Edit: If you want to truly trust people and make friends, play a themepark RPG that revolves around community building; i.e. play FFXIV.
