Fastest boatjacker ever

Why is a boat 40 freaking boards? The thing is like 3 feet wide. 8 boards is more realistic, I'm not building a yacht.

Speaking of which, game needs canoes. Would be crafted from a log, just like a runestone from a boulder.
It would take 1 damage each tile and would have, say, 100 health? Repaired with string.

I think I win on fastest boat "theft."

I saw a random passer-by carrying a boat, and asked if he would start a sign for me to make my own. He obliged, and actually stayed a little while to help make the boards. He had to go when it was nearly completed, and warped home. I finish up the materials myself & start to build it.
As I was -just- about to finish it, random guy comes by & steals everything from my crate. I take 1 board out of the boat sign as he starts to build it (he had no bone saw). He demands to know how I have a backpack (this was about 14 hours into the world) and refused to believe there was enough time to make it. Demanded to know how I got it over & over, then demanded leather (I was out).

Obviously I didn't give him any of this, so he destroyed my boat sign right in front of me.

Like when they litter tons of hearthfire in the vicinity just to get you to leave?

It seems they are single minded to their objectives. They don't take no for an answer even if a alternate choice is a better option to take...
Like if there's better stuff, they won't take it, they want 'YOUR' stuff.
