Yeah, we have some permanent statues, sculpting and some rather odd 'alien eggs' dotted around the countryside in the area I live, there are a range of low hills that separate the coast from the inland and these artistic objects are placed along it for walkers and visitors to enjoy.

Most of them have some relevance to the area or surroundings but the alien eggs were by far the best in that they were placed off track, became over grown by vegetation, no-one even knew they were there and those that did had no idea what they were ...............

Our town also had a wall piece by Banksy but they removed it last November and apparently it is being shipped off and sold - typical!

It depends where. A lot of countries forbid or discourage people from going to the wilderness so that kind of art would be pointless there. I know there are Scandinavian, German, and British laws that allow you to do that, but these countries appear to be the exception.

Have to disagree
For me at least, the goal is to have nature start taking overspreading forest tiles, grassing most of the stone, not completely wipe out every trace

Im all for overgrowth happening but introducing spreading forests could kill grasslands, heath, moor... Its not always that simple.

The piece, called "Art Buff", depicts an older woman staring at an empty plinth while wearing headphones with her hands clasped behind her back.
The artist said the piece was 'kind of' part of the town's art triennial.

The Banksy mural has been removed and is to be shipped to Florida where it could be sold for $750,000.

Art dealer Robin Barton said Art Buff, painted in Payers Park, will form part of a show of Banksy works at Context Art in Miami in December.

The mural appeared in September, but a few weeks later it was defaced. Mr Barton said the painting had been the subject of a number of attacks including one where a cartoon phallus was drawn on it and the owners of the wall removed it saying they were "no longer able to maintain it".

So, from the owner of the walls point of view I sort of get it but more should have been done by the local council to protect it, imo, or remove it and place it somewhere more protected, but to remove it completely as if it never happened ....... is disappointing. :(

The art she is staring at isn't the plinth. It's the grey spot of paint on the wall, as in most American cities, afaik, graffiti is covered in random swipes of grey, brown or any other drab sort of color of paint...applied with a roller. Graffiti artists refer to this as a buff.

Yeah, it's a quote from the local paper but I wouldn't have known any different tbh, so thanks for the correction. :)

Yes that's mostly correct. The pillar or plinth is merely the symbol of elevated art but the grey paint has covered it. A symbol for the silencing of creative expression. The erasure of of the mind if you will. In stead of beauty some view it as vandalism.
