Asking some kind of rent (per used tile outside this given restriction) for cases that break this rule might not be a bad idea.
(Renting tiles should have some general rules to. Like, for example, no more than one or two(higher rent) tiles from the 25x25 plot/limit.)

I know one claim that would have no problem paying a nice annual price to Brodgar for using/claiming public space. ;)

If its an entirely new palisade then it might be possible without breaking the overall design of the place. However it raises the question of what that rent would be, and who would collect it, for what use.

?
In this case its a normal (by the rules), 25x25 walled area/plot. But the claim is extend a bit to protect barter stands.
In this case its smartly done on the side of a wider than 5 tiles wide road.
On its own not a bad way of doing it. But before you know it every one is doing it (where ever possible, and for whatever reason.).

However it raises the question of what that rent would be, and who would collect it, for what use.

I'm not into the technical aspects of rent/pricing, or enforcing. Just see it as a possible countermeasure for keeping it in check.

A alternative might be to adjust the rules a bit.
(unconditional and strict enforcing of the current 25x25 rule (at some point) ... might have its own problems.)

Street Naming:
So we got:
- Main boulevards (20 wide)
- Streets (10 wide)

Naming:
Boulevards might be named using some name that starts with the N,S,E,W wind-direction character.

North: Nettlepant Boulevard
East: Edel Harbor Road
South: Sprucecap Passage
West: Wagonfolk Way

I'm rather proud of myself! :P

Could also dip into some Norse mythology in the same spirit of "Völva's Wand" or "Brodgar" even, and do things like:

North: Njord March
East: Elivagar Harbor
South: Surt Pike
West: Wod Walk

I like that the town is really showing some character.

@Vaku: nice.

---

Possible rule adjustment:
- Walls may not be bigger that 25 tiles wide and 25 tile long.
- P-Claims may be extended 1 tile on a Street or boulevards side, For trading stand protection (only?). <= implies having a active trading stand.
(As HnH has no rotation feature, this is only useful for plots on horizontal streets/boulevards.)

...
One problem of course. Some 'rule abiding' players already have taken care of adjusting there walls to make it possible to have room for trading stands inside the allowed 25x25 plot.

---
O yea. Other idea. (rent and enforcing)
P-Claims extending the allotted 25x25 plot, may be de-claimed by the Village at will. And the Items outside the 25x25 plot confiscated (as rent payment).
;)

(think that's about it on this subject from me)

Same could be tried for streets. In this case streets that run perpendicular on a given wind-direction/Boulevard. (for full length of street, where it makes sens.)
Alleys ... Don't know. (or leaving it up to those the live in that section. (Bounded by streets.)

Plot-map note: Current plot-map currently not really supporting(suited for) names due to its size. (unless I use some tiny pixel font I guess.)

i am so reserving "diagon alley" for the alley north of my plot. xD

As "rule-abiding" player...

claiming 1sq outside those 25x25 can lead to making smaller streets just 3sq wide what will be problem for wagon.

I'm ok with expanding 1sq outside as long as it leaves >=4sq wide street
