Indeed. Brodgar style life isn't for everyone. I think that if people start out there, learn the ropes of the game, and then decide to move on, the town is functioning well enough.

For anybody not in town wondering about how things are going, well it's pretty quiet. We had a substantial drop in active players a few weeks back which occurred around the same time the online pop in general declined. I think it was partially because people hit the 'what now' wall of life after building a house and palisade. Getting raided and having Satan/Cash get killed also spoiled things a bit. Since then we have slowly seen the active population recover. I am oathing new people most days.

As for myself, at the moment I am acting as a kind of merchant, buying baked goods, wine and such from small plot farmers in exchange for wrought iron and even steel. It makes me a small profit and helps keep metal flowing into town. I can't trade too much at the moment, because I need to do a lot of work to complete my move to a new bwalled plot.

Our Chieftan Snacky has been working hard to keep steel production going for crossroads and village influence objects. Slowly we can expand the village influence for the sake of plot management, as well as being able to port to cool places like the northern river, and maybe further out along the highway.

just want to add my own newbie experience to yolan report.

Brodgar, dispite the fear of an open city, is quite cool town. I came here after a first hermit experience in world 6 and the difference is easy to see.
When i was hermit i did all by myself, always feared by potential raiders and had 2 chars killed just for the fun of 2 stupid bone heads.

When i started in brodgar, i found nice people that helped me much for nothing. They gave me food, seeds, in other words, basic thing to start my life.

I agree some get killed but i follow basic safety rules (get a gatekeeper, have a scout alt, keep my best curio on mule alts) and until now nothing very wrong happened. Only once, a naked stupid jerk came to suxx saying he wanted revenge and targeted me but it was half my mistake to let him come inside my plot. He stole some curio but didn't break too many things and a neighbour came with his sword to help me.

I prefer to put the focus of friendliness i can find from other residents and now i try to do the same with other newcomers.
Some might have seen my chars fred, vanina or frederika put some food for free for newbies.
My personal feeling is that predation is the most "natural" and stupid way to play. In other hand cooperation is the most cool and intelligent way to play. I love when people ar surprised to be welcome in town with a basket of food and seeds... But it's only my opinion...

btw, i want to tell a typical newbie experience : north of the town there's a small claimed area near the river. i was boating was i saw rabbit, so i boarded the river side and realized my boat was stuck in the claimed plot. i came with a char with trepassing skill but found i couldn't take my boat as i didn't have the thieft skill... finally i had to abandon my boat in the plot....
ok you can laugh at me, i know it was tupid but it's with this kind of mistake that you learn the game...
now i got thief skill so i will be able to... steal my own boat... ha ha ha...
So if you see thief trace in this plot, take it easy, it is just a noob getting his boat back... ^^

It's not very smart to announce that you're leaving a scent in a specific place.. on the forums... :|

actual "rangers" and other non-retards will. unfortunately some people just love death & looting newbies. so be careful, try to avoid it (always keep show claims on)

Mmm... i'm almost sure you won't...

If you are an honorable and experienced fighter, you won't soil your crystal clear soul killing a defenseless farmer like me.

Based on your 2 years and half experience of this game, i'm sure you will prefer to go and tan your magnificent metal sword with the blood of the northern lake raiders that come in brodgar and sow pain and desolation in the town.

This will certainly bring you more fame, honor and happiness than killing me, and it will be my pleasure to speak out your exploits so that everybody will know you are the knight of light able to protect the widow and the orphan.

In other hand if you just kill me for fun, you will reduce your fame to the same level of the northern lake raiders, you will show people that Brodgar is not a better town than others and you will break Yolan's dream of an opened city of light, friendliness, brotherhood and justice. Finaly, the term "criminal scum" will be better applied to you than to me...

All this said, if you realy decided to kill me, well "c'est la vie" and i can't do anything but don't take the excuse of rendering justice...
