I had an encounter with combat 2.0 and two others maybe two weeks ago...

I had played H&H for a while in the past, then took a fairly long break, (I had declaimed my plot before I left, since i didn't know if I would come back to it at the time) before picking up the game again recently. When I came back to it, my former home was in disrepair, but obviously unoccupied, so I just moved back in. I'd managed to fix it up fairly well, when I saw someone in the area, and tried to avoid them, since I'd already had some aggressive players hassle me (and I play alone).

I jumped back to my hearth fire, and soon three guys came up, demanding to know who had given me permission to live there, before knocking me out. I tried to explain that I had lived there before, and had moved back in. I even offered to move to a different location, while they were being incredibly rude and aggressive, continuing to knock me back down, making it impossible to answer the questions they asked me.

When I told them that I was going to leave, and that they didn't need to be abusive, they killed me. When I remade a character, it spawned me in a completely different area, nowhere near my previous hearth fire, even though i had inherited from my previous character. I started over from scratch, and had to learn the layout of the area all over.

At that point, I was seriously considering just quitting the game entirely. I find H&H to be, at its best, a relaxing, enjoyable game. I try to be friendly, but I keep to myself. I have no desire to fight with other people, That completely defeats the purpose of playing the game for me. I really wish there was some way to report incidents like this in-game... it would help keep people like that from completely ruining the experience for others.

Yes, yes... Except this isn't supposed to be a relaxing, enjoyable game. Why would it be possible to report "incidents" that involve intended mechanics such as murder?
If you want to "keep to yourself" you should think about means to protect yourself. Just sayin'
