As a fact of my self defense in here (on the Internet, lolz, self defense never works anyway) I want to mention that I have not been a victim of a raid or anything, I just felt obligated to leave my response to some people's behaviour.

And as I mentioned, my reply has been striken by moar shitpostz ohemgee. But, the Internet is no man's land, so feel free to do what you want, I was just here to leave my statement.

Also, thank you for the PMs/replies that support me, quite a high number. I wonder why everyone is afraid to post what I posted earlier. Like Jessie is "someone" in here. It's a mere player, like everyone else, no need to be afraid of speaking out your opinion.

By the way, Astarisk, your reply holds a ton of missconceptions and faulty arguments, I don't even want to start explaining myself to you, since you're just one of the random billions of people on the Internet.

Enjoy your week guys.

that's the problem now days. with all the botting, legitimate is taken out of the picture.

Although I agree I think the game is still fine even with the quirk of botters because late game HnH is all about picking your fights wisely and you can avoid botters just as well as someone who achieved higher stats than you through legit gameplay.

I'd argue that while something definitely was lost, that was not it. The idea that characters are easier to make now than before is only a partial truth. I suppose not everyone remembers when jewelry had no softcap and was strictly hardcapped by your psyche -- new q900 thanes put on a fresh character and you've got a combat alt. Remember that gold and silver were even easier to obtain in bulk back then because those mines were damn near endless. Grinding lp on characters was also faster as you'd walk for 5 or 10 minutes, find a group of deer or a bear and kill them for a tasty few hundred thousand lp. This is why I believe it's not perma-death that was lost; if you wanted to live forever in w3 then you could live forever. Permadeath has rarely stung those that want to hide from it and hardly stung those that revel in it.

In my opinion, what was lost was our innocence. We created an arms race that we've all internalized. If I asked you what client you used and you said 'default' then everyone would mock you and note how easy you are to kill. If your client isn't bot compatible then you're screwing yourself over and can never be considered competitive. The game isn't about who can lead the strongest village or form the strongest alliance, but about who can exploit holes to give them the largest advantage over the common player.

What this does is take a lot of the magic and wonder out of the game that we don't really like to think about. The ambiance that night creates, the unknown behind trees, a complete misunderstanding to the scope of the world, the ability to snatch justice after death, and so on. The little things add up and eventually Haven becomes an idle game that you decide you no longer wish to partake in. That is when we lose our trade centers, our community heads, our evil raiding villages, our semi-benevolent rangers, and the common players living in the middle of a vast world just trying to survive. That is when we lose what makes this game fun to play.

The answer to the problem of there being nothing but raiders isn't a simple one. It's one that we all know bits and pieces of and one that everyone has chimed in opinions on. Part of the problem is archaic systems that contribute nothing to the gameplay and actually push it forward too fast such as the belief sliders. Another issue is the lack of an even back-and-forth for raiding; siege needs to be reworked and developed so that you aren't making vaults and so that it's possible to actually defend yourself prior to brickwalls and siege even after brickwalls. Altwalls should never be considered a legitimate tactic. Yet another issue is the inactivity of curios; they need to be a bit more active on the player so that they can compel you to play in a very Pavlovian way. I'm sure anyone and everyone can regale you with a thousand other little things that need to be added or worked on too. And that's it. Those thousands of little things are the problem with Haven and not the fact that someone wants to raid or that someone has raided you.
