Hello guys,
Would like to take a minute to respond, and send many thanks to Ramones for telling how it truly is.
I hear you on the "talk less, work more, post results"... It is hard to find the time to work more in this game when I am already spending insane amounts of time working on this project. There are many people who could vouch that I have spent more than a few periods of 36+ hours straight logged in and working on creating a Brodgar that people love to be a part of. During these times I work with a minimum of 3 characters at a time, manually, and as many as 8 - mainly if I am chopping down mass amounts of trees. Since the start of this project I have created nearly 1,000 wrought iron, 150 steel, 20,000 bricks (Not counting the amazing donations that have been collected AND the helpers/residents who have been just as insane as I am), 15 plows, an 8+ million LP claim, 7 village idols, 12 or more Chieftain statues, too many disposable banners to count, 6 battering rams, wagon gates, and the list goes on and on.
The downside is that I have had to be intentionally vague about the project, as knowledge is power and public lack thereof is sometimes necessary. Trying to balance assurances of progress with necessary secrecy has been the most difficult part, calling out to players who I KNOW I can trust has left me a limited - but growing - supply of helpers who also want nothing more than to see the city prosper and move forward into a new age.
The village that you know to be "Brodgar" is dead and ransacked because you have the wrong perspective on what constitutes a village and are LOOKING IN THE WRONG PLACE. We are Brodgar. The people. The villagers. Our name and allegiance will follow us wherever we call home, like many villages of old who have set out to find a better life with better resources. There are a small amount of residents who I have had difficulties in finding. Brodgar has always had open invitations under Yolan, which I plan to continue in a more secure way, but I do not know everybody who holds land under Brodgar's zone of influence. Arbitrary rules were not arbitrary or rules, but my personal attempts to get into contact with members who I have had difficulties in locating and talking to, especially in the most efficient way possible, since I DO follow the philosophy of talking less and working more.
Man of few words and few posts and this is my 2nd novel...
To give a few tidbits on the state of Brodgar:
Double brickwalls, more than view-distance apart
Covers more than 70 grids
More sophisticated crossroad system than Brodgar has ever had
More authority than Brodgar has ever had (at least in this world, I have no clue of the auth in W6) - Total authority, when finished, will exceed 4 million easily
Statues outside are brickwalled, so bring a ram before you bring the pissed-off animal
Larger plots, roughly 3x the area
Roads built specifically for wagon travel throughout the city
A community of players interacting with each other, working toward common goals and building on the things that I was doing solo for a few weeks. Massive amounts of credit go to the people who have put their faith in me reviving this city. Without their help it would have taken many months to get to the stage we are at now, and I would have actually gone insane with even more sleep deprivation than I have already.
Thank you everybody for your interest in the progress of the city, to those of you who have offered encouragement and support I say thank you.
When I open the city I will open a new thread. The new beginning of Brodgar shouldn't be followed by some of the horror stories in this thread.
