I was boating down the river near my little nub settlement, when this guy comes out of nowhere and asks me to kin him, being friendly, I did. so then he said he needed a ride across the river, but I told him I had to log, because I was about to leave work, when the jack ass swims after me in the river, all the while screaming at me about my gear being his and that I stolen his boat, blah, blah. my gear was a q 10 fishing pole and starting clothes. the boat was traded for with chicken meat and bones. I laughed as I boated by his body and went on my merry way.

I know of some "unfriendly people", sure.

Out and about, I attempted to hearth immediately when I saw two white pips approaching, but couldn't. I assumed they were using that rapid-auto-aggro-with-slings script, and later found assault scents that support this assumption. Anyway, I panicked like a tit and they pulled battleaxes and murdered me while shouting some racial slur. :P. An unfortunate but still valuable learning experience.

I found scents and tracked the fellow who scored the murder to a small b-walled village at -37,-36. It seems likely that this is in fact their village since the settlement immediately to their east is a field of skeletons, as is the nearby mudflat. Advise care to players in the area.

I also know of a village named Auschwitz that has a swastika paved into the minimap with bricks. I haven't seen anything naughty in the area, but that probably does qualify as "unfriendly". :P

I've just started to mine no ore could be found near my home base so i took a venture and found a huge cave system (i mean huge) so i started a little mining op. Found my first ore so started to establish a bit more brought my main over and such. Was just starting my pali when sum dickheads rolled right in an started blowing up my containers.. I retreated behind a cliff to watch and try and establish contact with these savages but couldnt make much as bear wasnt the only things these guys could butcher.
I realized they did not blow up my main crate full of goodies so i took action!
Ran right into the fray of the two grabbed my boat that i hoped still contained my most prized possessions and dipped into my HF sealed cavern proceeded to an underwater stream and crossed.
As i did this i spawned an alt outside to see the savages breaking my HF in pursuit after me.
This was getting intense' i thought. I waited for them to break it and after a few moments then woke my main up and quicky rushed in the cave to where my miner alt stashed the goods and logged him back on aswel only to see my stalkers very close with boats of ther own. At this point i still didnt check my boat for its contents but didnt have to.
Jumped back across the stream gave boat to main and hearthed miles away back to my old settlement.

Im not sure what to take from this being my first hostile encounter and all except it was great experience and i learned the importance of alts, tricking these players who were more experienced then me was fun and the quick thinking softened my losses XD maybe ill keep my newly spawned char or miner around to keep an eye on these guys;$

PROTIPS for New Players
I just got murdered. Don't know who did it. But hey, the character was only 5 days old, so I'm not super pissed.

I post this here in the vain hope that others will learn from my (plentiful) mistakes.

Tip #1: Choose a good neighbourhood*. Keep walking if:
1) You run into more than 2 player skeletons** on any given jaunt through the forest
2) Multiple partially established and abandoned settlements are present in the area (With skeletons)
3) You are near a strange village (Full of skeletons)
4) You see caves with claims (Also full of skeletons)
5) You find runestones people left for another player, having robbed and/or murdered them*** (Bonus points if the runestone is next to a skeleton)

Tip #2: Don't try to make friends with your neighbours until you have a plan to kill them. There is a reasonable chance they want to kill you for your stock of Q10 clay so they can be king of the mud pile****.

Tip #3: Whatever the hell you do, (And this is a big one) don't go AFK waiting for an aim bar to fill while fox hunting. Not even if you need a tea refill*****.

Good luck! :D

*- This is an example of a bad neighbourhood.
**- If you average 5 or more just run and never ever look back.
***- Shout-out to my main man Peter. My condolences on the whole "Being murdered" thing.
****- Just kidding, there was no overarching conspiracy. Sometimes lady luck just shits on you.
*****- No, not even if it is really good tea!

Good guide for all players, not just newbees.
No trees were killed by this post, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
