Path of exile
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

A nice way to get around this is allowing for customizable gear options. You could technically still be wearing the same "Plate Armor" in terms of stats as everyone else but with a graphical difference.

ArcheAge does this by allowing players to turn a regular piece of armor/clothing in to an "image item" which can then be applied to equipment you want to wear so you can have both the better stats of an armor but the image of another.

PoE has a random generator for up to 6 properties on each piece of gear (additionally you can now craft more stuff on them that is entirely unique to the crafting proccess) and there are dozens of different properties with dozens of different tiers. So there is really no 2 items that are the same except uniques (ironic, huh?). The uniques have such a wide variety too that a lot of different ones are used end game. Ideally unique items are designed to be a role player and build enabler rather than a best in slot item in PoE.

Sure there are a few staples that appear again and again in some of the more popular builds, but you simply cannot avoid that.

The random item generator combined with the skill tree (see below) offers you an infinite number of viable ways to go for endgame.

I've played TONS of MMO's, pretty sure more than most of people from this forum, I just dont like the space-science vibe. Most of the MMO's I played that were just WoW clones had the best armor that everyone was trying to get and wear, you sure could use another one that was slighty worse but all the pro players playing for years were using the same. Most of the 2d MMOs that I recall didn't even have a graphic for armor that you're wearing, you could just see it in your inventory and still - one class had just one best armor that everyone was tryharding to get.

You can change the looking of the armor but still most of people will use the same armor just change the image.

Some people from the "pros" in haven are wearing different stuff like cylinder hats and shit like that, but well if you ask me I don't care about the look or being "different" I'd rather get higher armor class.

You disagreewith me listing facts about PoE (because that was the important part of my post)? The game really has an infinite number of combinations that are end game viable. I did not even the fact that you can combine skills with up to 5 support abilities to basically create your own spell system. Again makes up for tons of options.

Fireball + multiple projectiles? Sure, you got yourself 3 fireballs. Fireballs + multiple projectiles + spell totem? You summon a totem now that shoots 3 fireballs. Could add an ability that curses enemies on hit, or some life leech, maybe top it off with some additional lightning damage? The choice is up to you.


(If this goes too much off topic to the actual thread I can split this and open a new thread for it in the Inn. Just let me know if you think that might be necessary)

We've been talking about armors here not about builds or magic, I dont even know who you are so I dont know if you even played haven, but there is no magic here :)

Even if there are 5000000000000 combinations of armors, Im 99,9% sure that there is one that is the best if you compared its statistics to other ones and people playing for like 5 years will get this one and not any of these 499999999999 left

You can theoretically create perfect items in PoE, but no normal person ever will. Perfect only for one build then though.

The magic part and the skill part are directly linked to the gear part to show you what a game can do if you are creative enough. It is all entwined and the argument as a whole is all the more true if you take that into account.

The gear itself is very diverse too if you just consider most unique items being build enablers and not BIS stuff. So if you have a ton of different end game viable builds all of which use different build enablers. Well...you get the picture.

Also different armor types that all have their merits and flaws. Different support abilities on armor that is needed for different builds (thus me dipping into the endless possibilities of build making) are added to that and make it even more complex.
