Haven't encountered them this world, but last world they were a bunch of reasonably intelligent (in terms of strategy though not necessarily tactics) criminal scum based on a Polish forum. And also quite amusing, running around outside my walls claiming they wanted to buy milk and be my new friends while just offscreen they were killing the alts my villagemate was spawning to see what they were up to (building bugrams, as it happens).

Unfortunately, I recommend running away and hiding

Last world there were up to 8 of them running around at any one time, from which we found 4 leaving assault/murder scents but some of the murder scents tracked in a different direction than Devios so either they had a vault I never found (I got distracted from my tracking and ended up giving dead bears to random riverside-dwelling new people) or they have friends in other villages. But again that was last world, could be all different this time.
