Was just raided.

Logged in to tend to my crops when I saw that my cow had just given birth. Hooray. Also saw that someone was saying YOLO and knocking down my wall. Barely escaped to my boat and now I don't know what to do. I can get the scents and such but would it be worth it to rebuild or pick a few crops and leave? My cows are dead and my mine was raided. Starting to feel very unsafe...

Sorry this happened to you. You saved your character though, which is the most important. Do you have a brick wall or a palisade? If the latter I would make plans how to build a b wall safely. If you have a b wall and got raided anyway, it is time to organize daily checking of walls/or time to leave perhaps. It depends how far you have come in building your place. if someone raided mine at this point I would just quit I think, there is just too much work involved. I don`t know where you are at though - maybe you will be better off somewhere else? Or be a stubborn hermit, dig your heels in and stay.

Poor Cows. :(

Yeah if you didn't have a brickwall then think about making one if you like the area you're in; if not go back, try to salvage what you can and move on to new pastures (only downside to that is getting waylaid on the journey or winding up settling in a worse spot).

I got palibashed early this world, right before I had enough iron/steel for a brickwall. They stole most of my wrought too so that set me back a bit, but I was able to get my brickwall up ASAP after that though, it's a harsh lesson everyone has to learn in the hearthlands.

Thankfully I had a buddy that let me move in with him :) he is mainly a hunter and I am a farmer so that makes for a good setup but most definitely starting a brick wall once we get the iron pumping again. While I was filling my boat with some vital seeds/maps before the move, a couple rangers came on by and grabbed a few scents. May not bring back Bernie and Sexy Hoof... but least they could be avenged and now I have a new spot to work on my beer and wine.

another question is would it be wise to keep vital structures (i.e. ovens, smelters, crucibles, etc...) in the mine? it's not connected to any cave system but I'm looking to make my new homestead less appealing to those who wouldn't give a second thought to knocking down my walls, killing my miner, and taking my poor Sexy Hoof's life :'(

i am truly sorry for you lots. :(

Although the visualization of some random zombie pummeling his fists against your wooden wall, shouting YOLO at you is kind of hilarious. Also slightly terrifying, but thankfully you got to a boat, which is why I have my Hearthfire outside our village, just in case.

For the initial cast iron->wrought iron this is also practical. You wll eventually however mine away from where you placed them. veins can be large. Lots of walking involved. Later in the game you might want construction with a higher q, then it is better to build it inside your plot.
