Building a village idol is a hassle so I don't have one currently.
I'm limited to trading people in boating range probably.
Can only do trades with people with good and friendly trading history.
If I don't appear trustworthy enough, we can do small trades to build trust.

I -strongly- suggest you setup an idol regardless, if only because making one is less work than trading by boat 2-3 times even if in the area.
