It is satisfying though to make your first steel, just like all new finds and builds are.

DO IT!

Good luck with finding a village though. :)

I made silk before metal, it wasnt AS bad. If you mess up steel you can potentially lose 3 days, which is just a tad little bit more heartbreaking.

Well, you say that, but when you've had to restart silk from scratch three times in one world (!) and your 87q eggs are now 10q - you may feel differently, lol.
(This is when I thank all that is good for Em and Jordan, :) ).
But, yes, on the whole silk isn't as bad as losing the steel just before it's ready, which i've also done many times. :(

Youre making me me feel like a newb Amanda :(
Youre totally right , the idea of losing high quality silk in one sweep is much worse. I only made a bunch of quality 10 silk. I scavenged high quality soil, pots, etc and tried to farm mulberry trees but they would never get past the 5th stage(I didnt step on them, put objects on them, give enough space, and whatever else people are going to say), theyd just never go past stage 5, maybe something to do with the terrain or some kind of loading bug.

Am I? Sorry, I didn't mean to. :)

I'm not sure why you were having problems with your tree's, the last stage is random when it comes to time, afaik - maybe someone else can suggest something though, i've always been ok with tree's, well, except for a couple I stunted early on when I didn't read the wiki and grew it next to my cabin. :)

Man power is more valuable when the men don't think they are the commodity that deserves to be fed, equipped, and taught at others expense.

With silk at least you can keep a few eggs spare, so that you don't lose your months of work :)

Yes, until you've messed up so many times you are down to those last few eggs, so you wait until you know you have time to see them through the process, put them on the table and then, just as they are almost done, you get called into work because the staff are trying to kill each other on the shop floor and you have to lose your eggs to save your business!

Another time I had three days off and started silk and steel in earnest, only to have to travel to another area, still work related, half way through - this was the time my steel reset for the fourth time!

And then there's just the moments of stupidity where I just plain forget i've even put them on the table.

It's not always so simple. :)

Players make this same proposal you did, and after they get in the village they disagree with LS policy, or have arguments with other villagers, or get raided, or a huge number of reasons, or simply get bored and quit, or move, or betray, and the whole village investment goes down the drain meanwhile the player has grown at its expenses.

I, for one, used to gear up in silk our new villagers, just got tired of feeling that I was asked to provide and after got not even a thank you in return.
