I probably did, but my death was imminent either way. If I hadn't been killed by this ranger prick I probably would have been killed by some other pricks whether I did anything or not.
You proclaim that no one would be able to find you but you left plenty of scents for a ranger to come to track you down. In fact, I think your boasting on wall blocking a newbie, your proclamation that you cannot be found can be interpreted as a challenge in which you failed one up. But the biggest mistake is being so liberal on your scent making and not having anything secure.
First off, that was a bluff. I didn't move very far but I didn't really expect anybody to look, except for that hikayu guy who was so worked up about me that he left two runestones outside my gates to let me know he was stalking me. And even then I was mostly worried about him giving away my location to raiders or griefing something or whatever.
Second, I thought I would be more or less on par with whoever was out there at the time (or at least just barely enough to get away), but there's really no way to know, is there? It's like a game of poker where you grind for the best hand.
Third, I was pretty much doomed from the outset here. I've had various groups of raiders try to kill me or kick me out, little luck in trying to get people together to form a village, and didn't have a decent spot for a vidol for a long time limiting the quality of goods and equipment available to me. I probably would have gotten killed doing some mundane task like foraging or something, being chased by two or more dudes who both hopelessly outclass me. And on top of that my friend—the one whose palis compromised my security—threatened to quit if I actually did manage to join a village, leaving me between a rock and a hard place. Shit, I was practically ready to quit at this point. If I didn't have a Plan B when my base was being sieged I probably would have just went out for a swim.

They were theft scents from things that were fucking
mine anyway (q12-18 leather for a palisade), go fuck yourself.
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant. Need as well as greed have followed us to the stars, and the rewards of wealth still await those wise enough to recognize this deep thrumming of our common pulse. —CEO Nwabudike Morgan, "The Centauri Monopoly"
