Community militia

Postby tardy0 » Sat Jul 13, 2013 5:00 am

So I've got a basic idea for a community militia somewhere in the realm of hearthlings. I know this might seem irrelevant to most of you since some time has already progressed in the world. But this is more of a way to stop some of the griefers and assholes in the world. I am mearly posting this as an idea and am looking for feedback. The way I see it is more of a large bounty hunter faction. Any Ideas?

I like this but i think it needs a little more thought put into it.

Since you said this would be a militia type of village to what extent in combat do our fellow hearthlings require in combat skills?

As I stated in the first line, I have a basic concept but I am not looking for one mans idea to be made. If this is going to be successful and last I know im going to need the support of the community.

As for the combat skills, there is no prerequisites just dont get killed. ;)

A community based militia would require the same things that any other military force requires: lots of food, armor, weapons, curios, and experience with combat. These goods have to come from somewhere so that means either you're do all of the infrastructure and supplies yourself, being sponsored by other groups, or you're taking it from others through less scrupulous means.

To be sponsored you'll need something of a reputation so that people can trust you. Failing that you'll have to rely on doing it yourself or raiding or some such. If you're doing it yourself then you're just another village except that you range to protect others. This is expensive and exhausting but good luck to you. If you raid to range, then you're sort of hurting your own cause but also good luck to you.

In all I feel like it's a bad idea. =)

I'd call it a touch naive. Probably not going to end well yes, but a good experience to have and run with I'd vote.

In general ranging factions need a very good knowledge of the political layout or they will accidentally hunt the wrong criminal and wind themselves crushed between political forces they didn't know existed.

Well seeing as this would be a community based event I'm sure that with the right location it wouldn't be too difficult to get needed supplies and armor. Via trading or even just finding. I know with my amount of posts and with only a general concept that is going to be nearly impossible for me to get sponsored by some other faction until maybe later once we begin to track perps and etc. to gain rep with other members. I would never start a bounty hunter faction and use it as a raid party instead, honestly that would go against the entire thread name and be completely stupid on my part. I know this is a stretch but I think it can be possible and make the world more fun for alot of players.
