Looking for Village

I suppose I should be looking for a village. Fairly new player and was trying to to do the hermit thing. Met another player named Beefy. Talked for a bit and he gave me some newbie advice. Say I got to go and about to log. Beefy tells me "one more thing" ... "players in this game are dicks" ... "im one" ... proceeds to murder me.

So lessons learned:
- Find a village
- Don't talk to strangers in this game

Hoping for active folks in U.S. East but not going to be terribly picky. Thanks in advance!
