Help, I'm new!

I'm new to this game and looking for a person or persons to help me do things like learn the game and not starve. My time zone is EST and I'm normally active in the afternoon/night/why are you still up at this hour range. No requirements for a place to live other than having people willing to teach me stuff. Heck, I'll even start up a small homestead with someone else if anyone's interested. For outside-game contact in addition to the forums I have Skype, Steam, and curse Voice for communications.
