Looking for a village

Postby Foxiestfox » Fri Dec 19, 2014 3:34 pm

I used to play this game several years ago, lost password of my old accounts so made a new one.

I'm at GMT-3, have a good understanding of all the basic roles and I have interest in making a nature alligned hunter, maybe tend to some crops, cook, feed cattle. I intend to play about 6-8 hours a day, maybe a bit more. I have little interest in joining a communist village, as I enjoy having my own private plot, but I'd be fine with joining one provided there's 10+ people there already and everybody plays daily at least 4 hours (I intensely despise casual freeloaders that contribute nothing while draining resources and I'd rather not be part of an organization based on sharing that tolerates this kind of behaviour).

I can operate on my own, but I prefer to play with lots of people, so don't invite me to a place with less than 10 people if you don't have plans to keep expanding and recruiting more people. I don't have any character at moment, so I'd have to start from scratch, and thus I don't mind joining a group at a very early stage, provided there are plans for relentless expansion and the people are committed enough not to ragequit if we get raided.

If you're interested in having me at your village send me a pm or contact me via skype foxiestfox.hnh

Also if you are a hermit and for some reason decides you'd like to abandon your hermitting ways to follow me wherever I get accept enter in contact too, as I said I like to play with lots of people and will only accept to get into a place committed to expansion, so it is likely that if they'll take me in they may take others with similar interests in too, plus it would surely be fun to join a new place with a bunch of other fresh characters to build up together.

we're communistic but expanding. you seem demanding but so am I. I'm probably wasting my time by posting this.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

Thanks for your generous offer but I'll have to decline at this time, mainly due to these:

no personal claims allowed
communal dictatorship

Some might disagree but in my experience although such a model works well for small villages and can be very efficient if well handled, it is too clumsy for the kind of expansion I have in mind, you'll certainly notice it gets harder and harder to manage and trust newcomers as your ranks swell, and if you keep expanding eventually it will get so hard to organize you'll probably start integrating personal plots in a way or another, otherwise you'd end up either giving up on recruiting more people altogether or trusting too much someone you shouldn't causing the whole thing to fall apart. Been there, done that. I'd bet a q10 pearl your village has less than 10 active people since you're still sticking to that model.
If I had a q10 pearl that is, I don't even have a character this world yet.

I added you regardless, maybe we can trade a couple weeks or so after I find a proper place to settle, or even become something closer than trade partners further down the line, if your people are open minded about merging with other villages that is. And about pclaims. ;)

Also if you have something else to add please take it to pms or skype, I'd rather have this thread remain uncluttered or I'd have to make a new one when I start active recruitment instead of simply editting this one, thanks in advance.

There are some villages which work in a communal system and have 10+ players without serious issues. I think the key to everything is the people inside, not the system. If you can find completely trustworthy people who know how to work in a group, I don't see how an open community could go wrong. Yeah I'd PM you but I think this information might be useful for other people, so here I am cluttering your thread, sorry.

Personal plots aren't a much better protection than a communal system either. For instance, an unwanted player could use his walled plot to bubble four rams ram and clear out neighboring plots, or even tear a hole into the village center. It's even worse if you allow personal plots with pc claims. You could try countering that by asking for gate keys and a cr inside, but that doesn't really help since those can also be blocked. In my opinion it's all about the people you live with, not the village system or its layout.

Indeed, if you can find completelly trustworthy people then village layout and any system you put in place to attempt preventing internal griefing becomes a secondary detail, and if somehow you manage to make a large village like that I have no doubts it could be extremelly eficient. If for whatever reason you already have a sizeable group you can trust to begin with I'd say go for communist, but I'm just a lone latecomer starting from scratch and since plot based villages usually grow much faster they're more appealing to me right now.

I'm just intrigued about how far a new organization starting from scratch can develop this late in the world, and since I have little interest in leading such a thing myself I'm seeking people with similar interests that already have amongst their ranks someone more inclined towards leadership and at least a rough idea about what sort of thing they want to accomplish in the few months we still have before the world ends (there doesn't seems to have a definite date for the endworld yet, but from what I read about developments in this new "hafen" thing I assume this world will end at some point in the late first half or early second half of the next year).

I guess people will post whatever they want regardless, so maybe asking for people not to clutter the thread is pointless, I'll just make a new one if it becomes an issue.

while i'm ok with your stance i'd never consider taking you in without knowing who you've been and where you've been at ... expecting much but no delivery ... sorry that's no go for me and prolly for a lot of other opportunities aswell ... reveal yourself... if you don't want cluttering

Your concerns are understandable, but unfortunatelly there's not much to reveal. I used to play with a group of friends irl and was never active on forums, and files where I used to store randomized passwords for old accounts are long lost, the only difference you'd see if I still had those are in the join date. My vacation started recently and I decided to give haven another go, I'd stick with playing with my friends again but they either have no time for that or just quit haven altogether a long time ago and want to hear nothing from this lovely timesink.

Maybe you're right about expecting much with no delivery. I was expecting to find a place in a day or two at most, and in fact I got at least two interesting proposals amongst about six in the predicted timeframe, but perhaps the way to go would have been to start hermitting until finding a suitable group to join instead of delaying start till such an occasion.
I might do just that if I don't get into some place today. I'll update the thread about it either way.
