Reasonable idea.

At least they shouldn't be faster than hearthlings on land, that's just ridiculous. If they're slower, though, they need to stick close to water to avoid getting kited to death like boars. And maybe stay in water outside of arrow range if they took any damage.

Really liking the walruses , brings us a bit closer to the old days when boars where something to truly fear.

Now all we need is a special kind of bunny like the one in Salem that spawns when you get near the regular one.

Something about as strong as this:

My point is that their changes only hinder newbs/casuals while hardcore players and veterans aren't effected by these mechanics at all. Arrows soft capping animal quality? No big deal just punch from a boat! Yes that's fixed now too apparently but I'm sure they'll find another way if they don't have several already. And to top it off, these changes to archery only make them worse in a PvE scenario for EVERYONE while PvP remains unaffected.

Change does not exist in vacuum though and this is not final state of game. Current cycle is and has been:
  • Player find way to exploit animal for easy kill
  • Jorb/loftar nerf this way of exploit
  • Repeat
Eventually there will be no exploit, no? Or you think it is not possible to make animal which can not have AI exploited like this?

For real, is it even possible to hunt without exploits or a horse? Seems pretty much everything will run away, making it super tedious to grind moves and get those finishers you need to actually kill an animal before it runs.

Agreed, you need a few moves before it even becomes a viable option. Ants are too strong in my opinion as are bats and these two enemies should be the early game creatures that we're getting our first few moves from.

It's not a very good system when it is easier to kill a fox/badger/boar/deer to get your first moves than it is an ant or bat.

It is a bit ridiculous to have an animal you have no chance of escaping from or defeating early game, getting ko'd is one thing but a lot of players seem to have been getting killed in the same way as when bats were first introduced ... I think they should be slowed down on land for a start, they are fat blubbery creatures who waddle, how can they be faster than a hearthling running!?
