Isn't a bucket full of water a pretty nasty weapon itself? Remind me of the metric system, but wasn't a gram originally defined as 1 cubic centimeter, or one milliliter, of pure water? That means a full bucket is 10 kg (or about 22 lbs), and that makes for a pretty vicious blunt weapon. Not sure a wooden bucket would survive many impacts with that kind of inertia, but whatever floats your boat.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Make friends with the other crabs or try to escape the bucket.

Probably work for a single, wide-swinging hit, then the water would splash out and you'd be left with an empty bucket

We do need blunt weapons though. Blunt trauma > cuts

Obviously not realistic per se but it would at least allow the possibility to outrun your opponent. Perhaps attacks completely empty equipped buckets rendering them useless?

I'd like blunt weapons a lot.

Please make it when you run over a goomba you jump on it, squish it, and it disappears into a cloud.

EDIT: And for the stamina and water discussion, possibly make it so when you pick another running speed (E: Walk > Run.) it takes time for you to gain the momentum up to that speed. And when you stop to drink, you're put down to Crawl speed (Possibly only during combat, or just Walk speed.) and need to make your way back up to Run/Sprint. Just a small idea i had.

EDIT2: Had another idea, maybe running and/or sprinting with a bucket in hand can spill the contents?
Total misplay.

Moles are funny, I love the way they burrow and then pop up elsewhere, so fast too ... and they don't look quite as gruesome as hedgehugs ... lol, (that was a mistake but it makes me laugh so I won't change it. :) ) and so are actually kinda cute for this game. :D

Why not just make water weight you down. If you have 3L you are fine but over you are forced to walk

They already did something I mention when I made my hot swap bot.
When switching gear you are forced into a 10sec CD
It was to avoid the hot swap from attack gear to defending gear.
Hot swap would been 10x more scary with gilding system.

Anyhow armor in inventory with debuff would be lawls
