White pride was changed upon request of the realm's queen, not because the devs thought it was inappropriate.

I really don't believe Jorb and Loftar changed the realm name because they were upset, I think it was supposed to be a tongue in cheek jab back at PP, the intention being for everyone to have a laugh over it ...

Unfortunately it back-fired because of the existence of the White Pride realm, which players genuinely found offensive, and Jorbs response to that just gave a bad impression and worsened the situation.

@Ants: If only the majority of the world looked at "white pride" in the type of connotation that we take phrases like "black power." Instead, we're used to seeing this phrase completely associated with neo-nazi and other racist groups. Sure, the meaning is one thing, but the associations are what drive people's sensibilities on the matter. Trying to play semantics to change people doesn't work. At the end of the day no one from our side is upset at :falling: Player Population :falling: being named changed. We totally thought that might happen at one point, just the unfortunate series of events with other realm names ruined the prank. This is all just a prank gone wrong and we all still have lots of love for our developers x]. We'll petition for a new name once the drama has cooled and see where it goes from there.

Maybe I'm late in responding to this, but: We were not offended in the slightest by the name. I thought it was funny. Not entirely sure why you would think otherwise. Too few smileys and xDs? If we were thin skinned, I don't think we'd still be here, or build this game in the first place.

If anything, one could debate whether the whole unicode plethora of dumb wingdings should actually be allowed, because they are kind of cancer this particular matter somewhat aside, but oh bother on maintaining specific ban lists for that.

Really, your response here is a yikes and ruins a lot of goodwill involved. This shouldn't even have been posted, the day Kotaku or Polygon see a game dev offer a response like that will be a real shame. I can see the headline of such an article already, "Player Population bad -- White Pride good". It makes the meme even greater - by changing the name Player Population you mostly just prove the point the realm name represented, that the devs stay so out of touch with what the players really want to see.
